Rideau Heights introduces SafeArrival

<img src="/images/557c9166-9ec7-548e-a39d-fc7fa960e645" srcset="/thumbnails/557c9166-9ec7-548e-a39d-fc7fa960e645 450w, /images/557c9166-9ec7-548e-a39d-fc7fa960e645 600w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 450px, 600px"> One of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our students arrive safely to school.  To enhance our existing absence process, we are introducing a new, more efficient absence-reporting system called Safe Arrival. This new system will make it easier for you to report your student’s absence, reduce the time it takes for our school staff to verify student attendance, and respond to unexpected or unplanned student absences. This time savings makes it faster and more efficient to account for all students and their safety. The new student absence reporting system will let you use a mobile app, a website, or an interactive toll-free phone number to report an absence in advance. These options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Future absences can be reported at any time. If your student is marked absent and the absence hasn’t been reported in advance, our new SafeArrival system will attempt to reach the student’s priority contact by telephone to confirm the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, school office staff will follow up. How to report an absence using SafeArrival There are three ways you can report your student’s absence in advance:  <ol> <li>Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store or from <a href="https://go.schoolmessenger.com/#/home">School Messenger website</a> (<a href="https://go.schoolmessenger.ca/">https://go.schoolmessenger.ca</a> )or you can select it from within the LDSB mobile app. The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account. You may have already created an account when we introduced the Communicate broadcast system. Select Attendance, then Report an Absence.    </li> <li>Use the <a href="https://go.schoolmessenger.ca/">School Messenger website</a> (<a href="https://go.schoolmessenger.com/">https://go.schoolmessenger.ca</a> ). Rideau Heights enjoys community centre

This new community centre and library are at the heart of the Rideau Heights neighbourhood. The Boys and Girls Club of Kingston and Area, Seniors Association, Loving Spoonful and other service providers have built an exciting schedule of programs and activities. The new space features <ul> <li>Seniors/youth space, lounge areas, a recording studio and a multi-purpose room</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Gymnasium and community kitchen</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Customer and administrative services including recreation program registration, facility bookings and sales of Kingston Transit multi-ride cards, blue and grey bins, garbage bag tags and pet licenses</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Drop-in information about Housing and Social Services programs </li> </ul> Our school is taking advantage of the kitchen, gymnasium and library space. All students have been provided with their own library cards. Students are enjoying visiting the library during and after school. The building of the Rideau Heights Community Centre and improvements to Shannon Park are part of Phase One of a 20-year plan to revitalize Rideau Heights.

Message to Families - February 11, 2026

Dear Families, The Limestone District School Board is deeply saddened to learn of the horrific events that took place yesterday impacting a school and community in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.  No words can adequately express our condolences to those affected. Our hearts are with the students, families, and community members who have been directly impacted by this awful event. While there are many national and international events that affect people on a daily or weekly basis, events impacting schools have an impact on everyone attached to schools and education. Significant events like these, that are in the public eye and heavily featured on news and social media, can have an impact on students and families in different ways. These impacts may look different for each person and be impacted by their source(s) of information and/or media coverage. We are here to offer support. The board’s Educational Services team is available to support students and families as needed. Educational Services has prepared the following tips to help families support students during this time: <ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Recognize that students may become concerned that something bad will happen to themselves, family, or friends. Explain that safety measures are in place and reassure them that you and other adults will take care of them. </li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">If your student is not focused on what happened, avoid dwelling on it or having detailed adult conversations in front of younger students. However, be available to answer questions to the best of your ability. Young students may not be able to express themselves verbally. Pay attention to changes in their behaviour or social interactions. </li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">For some, limiting exposure to media coverage or other sources of information may be important, particularly when social media platforms contain significant amounts of misinformation or disinformation. Images of a horrific event can become overwhelming, especially if watched repetitively. Young students may not be able to distinguish between images on television or their screen, and their personal reality. For older students who choose to watch the news or scroll social media stories related to the event, be available to discuss what they see and to help put it into perspective. </li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Be aware of your own needs. Do not ignore your own feelings of anxiety and concern or anger. Talking to friends, family members, and mental health counsellors can help.
